Local Plumbers & Plumbing Services Near Me

Looking for a professional plumber in your local area? Whether you have a leaky tap or your drains are clogged, finding a reliable specialist near you is essential. That’s where our local plumbers come in.

What can a local plumber help with?

You can’t build or maintain your property without a qualified plumber. Their expertise is particularly important for bathrooms and kitchens, though they can help with a wide range of jobs, including:

  • Installing and repairing bathrooms, radiators, appliances, taps and boilers
  • Removing blockages in toilets and drainage
  • Detecting and repairing leaks in water and gas systems
  • Replacing old plumbing · Repairing burst water pipes (hire an emergency plumber here)

If you’re getting a bathtub or shower installation, you’ll need a bathroom specialist to figure out how to organise your bathroom fixtures.

Your plumber will need to be Gas Safe registered to carry out your annual boiler service or boiler installation. Otherwise, you’ll need to hire a heating engineer who is Gas Safe registered to do these for you.

Planning permission for plumbers

In general, internal works don’t require planning permission unless you live in a listed building. This includes kitchens and bathrooms, except when they’re part of a house extension.

For more details, visit the Planning Portal website or read our planning permission guide.

What should I consider when hiring a local plumber?

Whether it’s a broken radiator or a sudden loss of hot water, a local plumber can be a trusted help. This is why it’s really important that you choose a reliable plumbing company to carry out work on your home. Failing to do this can cause stress and expensive repairs.

Before you hire, you should do your research to ensure that your plumbers:

  1. Are an experienced company with a strong history of successful projects
  2. Have all the necessary licenses and insurance needed to protect you and their workers
  3. Have a good range of positive reviews from previous customers vouching for their reliability and professionalism
  4. Are offering the plumbing work you need, and are available to carry out the work in the timeframe you need it to be completed by
  5. Are quoting a price and payment option that you are happy with, having compared the quote with other local plumbing companies

A local plumber is more likely to respond quickly – especially during an emergency – as they’ll be right around the corner and ready to help. Post a job today to find a professional plumber near you.

How much do plumbers cost to hire?

The cost to hire a plumber can vary quite a lot, depending on several factors:

  • Type of job: The complexity of the plumbing job greatly affects the cost. Fixing a minor leak will be less expensive than installing an entire plumbing system.
  • Location: Where you live in the UK can also impact costs, as prices differ from region to region.
  • Materials: Your choice of materials and fixtures for your plumbing project can significantly influence the overall cost.

That being said, on average, the cost to hire a plumber is between £40 and £80 an hour, or between £150 and £400 a day.

For a more accurate, free quote for your project and location, speak to a skilled plumber in your local area today.

The qualifications your plumber needs

Are you licensed and insured?

Make sure to always ask your plumber what insurance they have before you hire them. If your plumber is carrying out gas work, they’ll need to be Gas Safe registered. Ask to see their Gas Safe card, then check their details by heading to the Gas Safe Register website. While it’s not a requirement for them to have it, it’s a good idea for your plumber to also have valid public liability insurance. This protects both you and your plumber should anything go wrong during the job, such as damage to your home or personal injuries.

How many years of experience do you have?

Asking how many years of experience your plumber has will allow you to pick a plumber who you are confident has enough expertise to carry out a high-quality job. When you’re finding a plumber through Rated People, head over to their profile to check out the pictures on their work gallery and their ratings and reviews.

Tips for a smooth experience with plumbers

  • Clear Communication: Articulate your expectations and budget clearly from the start.
  • Stay Updated: Regularly ask for project updates to preempt any issues.
  • Document Everything: Keep a written record of all agreements and changes, including costs and timelines.
  • Address Concerns Promptly: Communicate any concerns immediately to resolve them quickly and maintain a good working relationship.

Other plumbing FAQs

Does my plumber need to be Gas Safe registered?

For any gas-related work, your plumber must be Gas Safe registered to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

Do you need planning permission for plumbing?

Most plumbing work doesn’t require planning permission, but significant alterations or new installations might. Always check local regulations.

What do plumbers do with the old materials?

Responsible plumbers will dispose of old materials following local environmental and waste management guidelines, often included as part of the service.

Hi We are experienced builders, residential and commercial building and maintenance services Have been in business for around 15 years We offer quality services at reasonable prices

We are Solar Technicians. Not pest control experts or window cleaners. We have the knowledge and experience when it involves installing or maintaining your Solar Panels. You wouldn’t want a brick layer working of your solar panels, would you? All our work comes with a Workmanship Guarantee and we are covered by our Public liability insurance. We do not use any chemicals or treatment to clean the solar panels and our specialist equipment protects the ARC on the face of the solar panels. Using the wrong equipment could be detrimental to your solar panels. We only use the highest standard of materials for Solar Bird Protection and the correct equipment for carrying out Solar Panel Cleans. Hence why pest control experts stuff chicken wire under the Solar Panels & window cleaners get poor results when they attempt to clean the Solar Panels from the ground with a soft bristle brush. We will be gaining access to the roof without scaffolding, which keeps the cost down and also using the correct equipment to clean the panles that will remove the build up of Lichen, Algae & any pollen / dust whilst still protecting the ARC on the face of the solar panels. We would advise a solar clean once a year, anymore is not necessary. If you wish to have both services completed at the same time, we would be happy to offer a discount. Please feel free to read our reviews on Google, for your own peace of mind of the quality service we provide.

Kevin quoted and did the job. Very polite and helpful. Job done a few days ago, 1 or 2 pigeons still hanging around which was what Kevin said but no bird mess on the paving since he did the job which is a very good sign to indicate what Kevin done is working as there was always bird mess in the morning that needed cleaning. Top professional 5 stars to Kevin. Would definitely recommend Kevin to anyone who has issues with pigeons nesting and sheltering under solar panels

We felt easy about him accessing all the rooms in the house and leaving him to his own resources to fix the plumbing problem where we have no heating or hot water for 4 days. He kept up up to date as he worked and provided us with information to bear in mind for the future. Martin was very smart and actually turned up earlier than arranged which is always a plus.
